It has a unique history of excellence and development since inception. The college started under Agra University as a satellite branch of Mathura Veterinary College (U.P.). However, the degree of B.V.Sc. & A.H. was awarded to the first batch students of Mhow Veterinary College by Vikram University, Ujjain. The journey of this college did not stop here. After the first affiliation with Vikram University, it was shifted to JNKVV, Jabalpur from 1964, then RVSKVV, Gwalior from 2008 and finally affiliated to present University NDVSU, Jabalpur under the act 16 of M.P. Vidhan Sabha in 2009. Initially, the classes, academic works and student’s accommodation were started in the cantonment area building like bunglow No. 33, Dak bunglows and even then the state bus depot building. These facilities were continued till the college has its own huge building with required modern spaces and amenities for veterinary education at Rasalpura, 4 kilometers from Mhow and 18 km from Indore city.
The College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Rewa was established on 11 January 2007 with the objective of strengthening the economy of the Baghelkhand region through the advancement of animal husbandry. The college is situated on a sprawling 167-acre campus, enriched with lush green pastures, approximately 5 km from the heart of Rewa city along the Rewa-Shahdol highway. The institution offers the Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (B.V.Sc. & A.H.) degree in accordance with the norms of the Veterinary Council of India (VCI). The college received recognition from the Veterinary Council of India in 2015, as per Extraordinary Gazette Order No. REGD. No. D.L.-33004/99.
Since commencing its undergraduate programme in the academic session 2007-08, the college has made significant progress by introducing postgraduate (M.V.Sc.) and doctoral (Ph.D.) programmes in various disciplines of Veterinary Science. At present, the college is equipped with well-developed infrastructure, including modern classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, a computer lab, a library, separate hostels for boys and girls, sports facilities, a gymnasium, indoor games amenities, and an adequate number of qualified staff to effectively conduct undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes.

To harness the talents of the students, sport and cultural activities are organized regularly. The teachers are placed in charge to train the students to carry out the activities effectively. College students are participating in the interclass, intercollegiate, interuniversity youth festival organized by the college, our university and other universities.
Sports and recreation facilities
The college is having well established sports facilities for both students and staff. Physical education is headed by sport officer, who look after the various outdoor and indoor sports for the overall development of the students. For physical education, college is having full-fledged sports materials both for In-door and Out-door games. Similarly, the cultural cell of the College takes keen interest to organize various cultural activities with a view to make the students full of cultural values and ethos and make them overall a responsible citizen.

Research has been an integral part to keep pace with the advancements in the field of Veterinary and Animal Science. The scientists have been engaged in research work since the inception of the college. The scientists and faculty members have published more than 2000 research papers in various national and international journals of repute. A new species of filarid worm Gallifilaria mhowensis was recorded for the first time in the world from this college. One of the pioneer research works on Ranikhet vaccine in poultry was carried out in the institute and various prestigious awards and honours were received by the faculties of the institute. Hari Om Ashram Trust Award in 1975 was given to Dr. B.S. Malik, Dr. S.K. Tanwani and Bhatnagar and Nair memorial award in 1978 to Dr. B.S. Malik and Dr. S.K. Tanwani for the research work on CDF66 strain.
Systematic and coordinated approaches to research in the different disciplines have been adopted. Research work on public health diseases of zoonotic importance, food borne and other microorganisms, environmental pollutants, toxicities, herbal formulations, feed analyses and formulation related to animal nutrition and studies on economic traits of livestock and poultry are being carried out as a part of curricular research programme.
Post graduate students also utilize the facilities at laboratories of collaborative institutes for their curricular research work.
Consultancy and advisory services are provided in the area of livestock health, production, feeding and management to the State Veterinary Department, Livestock owners, NGO’s and people belonging to tribal areas. To extend the benefits of research findings and to make the utility of the college extension activities in rural areas training programmes for the farmers and field veterinarians, animal health camps, livestock awareness camps, kisan goshthi, film shows, exhibitions, cattle fairs, Kisan Mela, farmers meet, vaccination and treatment camps and exhibitions demonstrations and lectures are being organized by the institute. A short period training program on dairying and poultry keeping for the rural masses were also organized. A well-equipped Ambulatory Clinic of the college visits to several rural areas for timely treatment of diseased animals and pregnancy diagnosis, artificial insemination and prevention of infectious diseases. Professional services have also been rendered through the well-equipped Veterinary hospital with X-Ray and indoor facilities. The aligned animals from adjacent villages as well as the patients coming from far-flung areas of the state take the advantage of this hospital. The technical staffs of this college arrange lectures and demonstrations for farmers as well as for field veterinarians.
