Brief History :
The Department of Veterinary Pathology was established separately in the year 1963. The department was headed by Dr. C. N. Pandit, Dr. R. P. Awadhiya , Dr. U. R. K. Rao, Dr. V. S. Richharia, Dr. A. G. R. Pillai Dr. U. K. Garg. Presently, Dr. Supriya Shukla is heading the department. The objectives of the department were to fulfill the needs of livestock owners, Govt. Organization for disease investigation, teaching research and extension. Since, then the department is actively engaged in teaching, research and extension. In the Field of disease investigation department has made excellent contribution by reporting prevalence of many important diseases of domestic and wild animals and birds for the first time in the world, India and state of M.P. Viz. Gallifilaria Mhowvensis heart worm of poultry, Milkers nodules, Histomoniasis in turkeys, Feline pan leucopoenia etc. In the past 57 years 58 students have obtained M.V.Sc. Degree from this department. From 2014, Ph.D. programmed has been incorporated. Two PhD completed and three are ongoing. More than 200 research papers have been published in International and National journals of repute. The research articles from the department have been presented abroad viz. U.S.A., Germany and Canada. The department handled two important I.C.A.R. sponsored research project one on M.I.C. gas tragedy at Bhopal and other on Goat for meat. Research article on “Adencarcinoma of prostate in a dog” has been awarded for the “Best poster presentation award” at I.V.R.I, Izatnager, Bareily. During disease investigation programme the department has honour to establish and report pesticides as a cause of mortality in peacocks in Jhabua, Dewas and Morena districts of Madhya Pradesh. The articles published in “Frontline” and presented in National symposium at Trichur, Kerala. Presently the department is extending disease diagnostic service in the Teaching Veterinary Clinical Service Complex and handling samples of all clinicopathological importance from diseased animals received daily in the hospital. Each year the department receives approx. 400 blood samples, 200 biochemical estimations, 70-80 Urine samples, 100 postmortems including poultry and wild life, and more than 50 histopathological biopsy and tumor tissues. The Department maintains more than 300 specimens of different disease conditions in the Museum and 1000 histopathological slides which is a unique collection in the country.
