▶ Brief History :

The Department of Veterinary Parasitology was separated from the combined Department of Pathology, Bacteriology and Parasitology as an independent Department (unit) in the year 1962 under the leadership ofDr. S.K. Kamalapurand the Department was led by him up to the year 1983. From the year 1983, the Department was headed by Dr. P.C. Jain up to the year 2002. From the year 2002 to 2008, the Department was headed by Dr. G. Das followed by Dr. V. Agrawal from 2009 to 2012. at present, Dr. A.K. Jayrawis heading the Department since 2012.

▶ Objectives of the Department :
Teaching :-
  • To impart education in Veterinary Parasitology for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • To undertake research on parasitic diseases for early diagnosis and effective.
  • To disseminate the information regarding prevention and control of parasitic diseases to end users.
▶ Thrust area of research :
  • Mapping of acaricide resistance in ticks of ruminants of Malwa region.
  • Mapping of anthelmintic resistance in gastrointestinal nematodes of small ruminants of Malwa region.
  • Mapping of haemoprotozoan infections in ruminants of Malwa region.

Salient Achievements :-

Department has documented various helminthic infections of goats, sheep and buffaloes of Malwa region and also recorded the status of resistance against commonly used anthelmintics. The Department has documented various species of ticks prevalent in cattle and buffaloes of Indore district and also recordedthe status of resistance against commonly used acaricides.

▶ Extension Education :

The Department used to disseminate the information regarding prevention and control of parasitic diseases to end users by using various extension education tools like by publishing the useful information in magazines, by delivering radio talks and by active participation in animal health camps.

The Department used to disseminate the information regarding prevention and control of parasitic diseases to end users by using various extension education tools like by publishing the useful information in magazines, by delivering radio talks and by active participation in animal health camps.

  • The Department of Veterinary Parasitology is providing the diagnostic facility in the form of faecal sample examination, skin scraping examination and blood smear examination along with other diagnostic tests to the animal owners. The Department is studying the status of resistance against commonly used anthelmintics and acaricides in Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh.
