Brief History
The Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education was started in January 2007 to strengthen the economy of the Baghelkhand region through animal husbandry, with an objective to teach under graduate students in the aspects of sociology, dissemination of various livestock farming technologies from the research station to the field by using various audio-visual teaching aids, demonstrations of scientific livestock and poultry farm activities, rural development, adoption and diffusion of innovation on various extension programmes, importance of livestock in livelihood of the farmers, technical know-how to prepare livestock projects, transfer of farmers problems to the research station, etc.,. This department serves as a remarkable link between the research wing of the college and farming community through organizing various extension activities and programmes. The department also carries out timely need based extension research and organizes extension programmes for the benefit of the livestock farmers. In the academic year 2016-2017 the University sanctioned permission for the college to start MVSc degree.
Objectives of the Department
- To offer undergraduate, Post Graduate courses in Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education
- To undertake research on various aspects of livestock farming in Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education
- To organize various extension programmes on livestock and poultry production and to disseminate the scientific farming technologies by using various media for the betterment of farming community.

Brief overview of extension activities carried out
Various Extension activities were undertaken by the college during the year 2020-21. This activities include base line surveys (05), awareness camps (05) Leaflet distribution also was conducted along with awareness and treatment camps and mobile numbers of needy farmers were collected. The farmers were given the number of team members to make call as per their needs. Parasitic analysis and CMT test for mastitis were conducted as diagnostic services for the needy farmers free of cost. Medicines were distributed to farmers in various animal health camps conducted by the college. Guidance on scientific management practices were given during farm to home visit conducted during farmer awareness camps.
Activities undertaken
Conducted awareness and animal health camps in the villages adopted. Data analysis of base line survey of the adopted village is going on. Diagnostic services and leaflet distribution were conducted in the adopted villages. Mobile advisory services to the needy farmers were also done. During A.H camps free distribution of medicines were conducted in the adopted village to needy farmers. (Detailed report below)
