Brief History
The department was established in 2007 during the inception of College of Veterinary Science and A.H., Rewa affiliated under Jawahar Lal Nehru Krishi Vishwavidyalaya (JNKVV), Jabalpur which later became a constituent college of Madhya Pradesh Pashu Chikitsa Vigyan Vishwavidyalaya (MPPCVV), Jabalpur in 2009 and further renamed as Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University, Jabalpur in 2012. There were two separate departments viz Veterinary Clinical Medicine and Veterinary Preventive Medicine earlier, which were merged later on as per the latest VCI recommendations (MSVE-2008) into one department i.e Veterinary Medicine. The department thus has experienced faculties from both Veterinary Clinical Medicine and Veterinary Preventive Medicine. The department is also actively engaged in the teaching, research and extension activities. The department extends its services for the smooth functioning of Medicine section/OPD of Veterinary Clinical Complex (VCC) of the college. The department is currently taking up research issues pertaining to various clinico-therapeutic aspects of various disorders of farm/companion animals like mastitis, gastrointestinal parasites in goats, tick infestation haemoprotozoan disorders, cutaneous, hepato-biliary and renal disorders of dogs especially with reference to herbal and homeopathic medicines to provide a safe, cheap alternative to conventional treatment. The department extends the expertise in health clinical camps to provide effective treatment to livestock at farmers’ door-step and also create awareness amongst the farmers for adoption of scientific animal husbandry practice for attaining the highest levels of benefits.

To impart up to date quality education and training to undergraduate and post graduate students in various diagnostic and health care aspects of Veterinary Medicine
Research:
To conduct basic and applied research in various aspects of Veterinary Medicine.
Extension:
To provide latest and modern diagnostic and healthcare facilities to livestock and companion animals.

- Common diseases of farm / companion animals in Vindhya Region of M.P. and their comparative clinico-therapeutic evaluation.
- Ultrasonographic diagnosis of animal diseases.
- Gastrointestinal Parasitism and its amelioration.

- Faculty serves as resource persons for various training programmes for Field Veterinarians, Livestock owners, entrepreneurs etc.
- The department extends the expertise in organization of clinical camps to provide effective treatment to livestock at farmers’ door-step and also create awareness amongst the farmers for adoption of scientific animal husbandry practice.
