Brief History
The Department was started in the year 2007 with inception of the college. However, it became full-fledged and teaching started in year 2011. The department of Surgery and Radiology focuses on teaching and research in various disciplines of subject i.e. General Surgery, Anaesthesiology, Diagnostic Radiology, Regional Surgery and Orthopaedic Surgery. The department has responsibility of management of surgical affections of animals. Teaching programmes of department have been planned to impart practical training to undergraduate and post graduate students. Faculty members collaborate with teaching veterinary clinical complex for internship programme and offer clinical practice courses to undergraduate and post graduate students.
Objectives of the Department
Mandate
- Human resource development in terms of graduate and post graduate in the field of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology.
- To safe guard animal health and alleviate animal sufferings.
- To conduct research in the field of anaesthesia, soft tissue surgery, imaging techniques, orthopaedic surgery etc.
- Farmer’s advisory service regarding prevention and management of surgical disorders in domestic animals.
- To provide inputs at various levels to other Universities and institutions in terms of experts.

- Balanced anaesthesia with inhalation anaesthesia in animals.
- Conventional and contrast radiography in animals.
- Education technology in Veterinary Surgery and Radiology.

- Comparative studies on efficacy of aloe vera and tidex procumbens on wound healing.
- Studies on comparative efficacy of thiopentone, isoflurane and sevoflurane as maintenance anaesthesia in dogs.
- Comparative efficacy of platelet rich plasma and platelet rich fibrin for fracture healing in goats.
- Comparative studies on efficacy of platelet-rich plasma and platelet-rich fibrin for wound healing in bovine calves.
Salient Achievements
- Herbal medicaments such as Tridex Procumbens found in plenty in Vindhya Pradesh were searched as a potent wound healer.
- Recombinant therapy is being regularly applied for orthopaedic and soft tissue surgery.
- Acts as referral centre of Vindhya Pradesh.
