Brief History
The department of Veterinary Anatomy, College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Jabalpur was established in 1948. Late Rao Saheb Dr. H.N.C. Chelva Iyengar G.M.V.C. PG (Edinburg) was appointed as professor on post superannuation assignment by special approval of Vidhan Shabha, M.P. He adorned the chair as head and teacher par excellence. He initiated the foundation of Anatomy block and departmental activities in Anatomy, Histology and Embryology till 1954.
Objectives of the Department
- To impart knowledge of anatomy to the under graduate students
- To Undertake field oriented basic and applied research by adopting up to date and advanced techniques
- To give the exposure of anatomy to different field persons

Research
- 23 MVSc theses and 01 Ph.D theses had been submitted from to date. Research on histogenesis, histochemistry and electron microscopy of various organs of domestic animals and birds were carried out.
- Studies on the histology and histochemistry of various organs in Kadaknath, have been undertaken in postgraduate research programme.
Salient Achievements:
Completed Research Projects
- An I.C.A.R. scheme entitled “Gross Anatomical, Histochemical, Biochemical and Exfoliative Cytological studies on placental attachments in Ruminant in normal pregnancy and in certain disease leading to abortion “(18.3.68 to 17.3.72) was completed and report accepted.
Ongoing Research Projects
- One ongoing research project entitled as “Establishment of Laboratory for embalming of ethically sourced animals and museum up gradation” Mandi Board, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh
Conferences/ webinar
- National Conference of Indian Association of Veterinary Anatomists (IAVA) organized from 27th to 29th Jan, 2006.
- Conduct a two days webinar entitled as “Taxidermy an Art vise- a- vise Science” on 10th and 11th June 2020

- 325 research articles published from the department in different Indian and international journals
Thrust Areas of Research
- Immunohistochemical and ultrastructural studies on distribution of receptors in female genital system of kadaknath fowl.
- Differentiation of bones of domestic and wild ruminants.
