Prof. (Dr.) Govind Pandey, serving as the “Registrar” of Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University (NDVSU), Jabalpur (MP, India) is probably ‘only person in Madhya Pradesh and alone veterinarian in India with maximum academic qualifications’ (about 20 degrees/ diplomas/certificates). His “Biography” is included in the famous directory of the world, ‘Who’s Who in the World’ (Marquis Who’s Who, America, 28th edition, 2011). Having more than 37 yrs. of experience in “Teaching/Research/Extension Administration”, Dr. Pandey is a man enriched with multifarious personality: an able academician, teacher, scientist, veterinarian, administrative officer, social worker, Hindi literalist and eloquent speaker endowed with strong writing flair.
Dr. Pandey has been graduated in ‘veterinary profession’ with BVSc & AH (1978) degree, followed with MVSc & AH (1980) and PhD (Hons., 1990) degrees in ‘Veterinary Pharmacology & Toxicology’ from the College of Veterinary Science & Animal Husbandry (JNKVV), Jabalpur. He is also educated in many different subjects of ‘Arts & Science’ as he acquired MBA, LLB, LLM, MA (Soc.), MA (Hin.), MA (Eng.), MA (Pol. Sci.), Acharya (Astro.), PGDPA & LSG (Pub. Adm.), PGDCA, Sahitya Ratna, Ayurved Ratna, DNHE, AIT (Art. Ins.), and PGPHT (Pou. Sci.).
Prof. Pandey has the unique distinction of working with ‘excellence’ in various institutions/organizations/associations/societies. During his career started from 7th August 1980, Dr. Pandey worked as “Veterinary Assistant Surgeon/Lecturer/Veterinary Surgeon/ Senior Veterinary Surgeon/Drawing & Disbursing Officer (DDO)” in the Animal Husbandry Department, Govt. of MP and as “Chief Executive Officer/Block Development Officer/DDO” of some Janapad Panchayats in the Panchayat & Rural Development Department, Govt. of MP. He also served as “Assistant Professor/ Professor/Principal Scientist & Head” of Pharmacology in two Pharmacy colleges. He then joined the services of NDVSU, Jabalpur on 20th April, 2012 and served as “Deputy Director/Associate Professor/Senior Scientist” of Research Services till he resumed the post of “Professor/Principal Scientist & Incharge” of the Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology, College of Veterinary Science & AH, Rewa (NDVSU, Jabalpur) on 26th November, 2012. Thereafter on up to 3rd February, 2017, Dr. Pandey occupied the position of “Registrar” of NDVSU, Jabalpur. Besides, Prof. Pandey is working in different aspects of Pharmacology & Toxicology, Fishery Science and other areas of Veterinary/Life Sciences. He has also keen interest in Hindi literature, Political Science, Sociology, Public Administration, Law and Astrology.
For great contribution in science/research/Hindi literature & culture, Dr. Pandey has received “35 Awards/Honours/Recognitions”. His prestigious awards/honours include “PhD Honours” (1990), “ICAR Senior Research Fellowship” (1986-90), “Indian Herbs Fellowship” (1978-80), “Sri Ram Lal Agrawal National Award” (1991), “Vigyan Alankaran” (2010), “Award for Excellence in Research” (2014), “Best Researcher of the Year” (2014), “Best Teacher & Promoter Award” (2014), “Eminent Scientist Gold Medal” (2015), “Administrator with Immense Zeal and Curiosity to Improve the Quality of Education” (2017) and “International Award for Best Academician with Administration Excellency” (2017), besides many ‘Best Paper Awards’. He has been honoured with ‘3 honorary fellowship titles’, viz., “Fellow of Academy of Sciences for Animal Welfare (FASAW)”, “Fellow of Society of Life Sciences (FSLSc)” and “Fellow of International Science Congress Association (FISCA)”
Prof. Pandey has supervised/guided many PhD/PG/UG research scholars and carried out many research/academic projects. He has investigated some ‘antihepatotoxic and anticancer herbal drugs, oestrogen induced cancer model, and ipomeamarone and paracetamol induced hepatotoxic model’. The research works on ‘oestrogen’ (ethinyl oestradiol- an oral contraceptive and hormonal replacement therapy used by millions of women) induced cancer and its treatment, and ‘ipomeamarone’ (isolated from injured Ipomea batatas, the sweet potato tuber) induced hepatotoxicity were successfully done probably for the first time in India. These researches were widely acclaimed by the eminent personalities, scientific societies and media.
Dr. Pandey has authored/published/edited/mentored “22 Books/Manuals” (‘14’ authored/published and ‘2’ edited/mentored in ‘Science/Research’; ‘5’ authored/ published and ‘1’ edited/mentored in ‘Hindi literature’). He has also authored/published above “255 Research Papers/Review Articles/Popular Articles/Abstracts” including “8 Book Chapters” in ‘Science/Research’. Prof. Pandey has participated in about ‘48 conferences/seminars/symposia/workshops’ and presented over ‘50 Papers’ of high standards with novel methodologies and findings. In ‘Hindi literature’, he has also released “2 Musical-Audiocassettes” of own lyrics and published/broadcasted several ‘poems/lyrics/dramas/stories’ through different media. He has been the “Life Member/ Office-Bearer” of about ‘40 scientific, professional, literary and cultural associations/ societies/journals’. Besides, he has been used as “Chairperson/Judge/Expert/ Advisor/Resource Person” in many ‘conferences/committees/programmes’ of different government and non-government organizations/associations/societies. He is also the “Editor/Mentor/Editorial Board Member/Expert/Referee/Reviewer” for many ‘journals/ magazines/research papers/review articles’ including “Chief Editor” of the ‘International Journal of Animal, Veterinary, Fishery and Allied Sciences’.
Dr. Pandey has delivered several speeches in a number of reputed platforms including ‘All India Radio and TV’. He has successfully organized many academic, scientific, official, literary, cultural and social programmes in an exemplary manner. This apart, Dr. Pandey has been “Badminton Captain, NCC Sergeant, Literary Secretary and Hostel Prefect” in the College of Veterinary Science & AH, Jabalpur, and passed “NCC B & C Certificates” and “2 years’ Course of National Service Scheme (NSS)”. He always works to energize and streamline the academic, scientific, administrative, literary, cultural and social services by bringing reforms and effective governance.
