Brief introduction:

Dr. Ramesh Pratap Singh Baghel was born on 15th September 1956 at Rampur Baghelan in Satna district of Madhya Pradesh. He was awarded Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry and Master’s in Animal Nutrition from Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya, Jabalpur and received University Gold Medals in Bachelors and Post Graduate Degree programmes. He completed his Ph.D. from C.C. Haryana Agri. Univ. Hisar, Haryana in 1987 and was awarded with Dr. S.K.Ranjhan Best Ph.D. Thesis award.

Dr. Baghel joined as Assistant Professor, Animal Nutrition in College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Jabalpur in 5th April 1978. He was appointed as Professor in 2001 and served as Head of the Department, from 15th June 2001 to 15th October 2010 and also continued as I/C Dean, College of Vety. Sci. and A. H., Jabalpur from 23rd January, 2007. He joined as Dean, College of Vety. Sci. and A. H., Jabalpur on 15th September, 2009. Thus, he continued as Dean, College, Dean, Faculty of Vety. Sci. and A. H., and Director Extension Services, NDVSU, Jabalpur up to 22nd February 2014. Again joined as Dean, College of Vety. Sci. and A. H., Jabalpur from 23rd Feb. 2014 and continuing. During the service period, Dr. Baghel has guided 2 Ph.D., 25 M.V.Sc. and 25 M.Phil students as major advisor. He has vast experience of work in the livestock production (dairy, poultry, goat and pig laboratory animals) and extension. He published more than 250 research articles in the Journals of National and International repute. He has published books and bulletins in Hindi as well as English. He has also handled 2 research projects of ICAR as PI and two as Co-PI. He is also the “Fellow” National Academy of Veterinary Sciences, India. As a DIRECTOR, he has organized ICAR SUMMER as well as and WINTER School programmes besides orientation courses of CLFMA. As an Organising Secretary, he has also organized two National Symposium in the College of Vety. Sci. and A.H., Jabalpur. He is life member of eight different national scientific societies.

He has been awarded by “Maa Narmada Gaosala evam Paryavaran Kendra Award”, “Krishak Vandana Award”, Mrs. Mallika Trivedi Award, Pro. Ram Raksha Kiran Shukla Award by IAAVR, “CLFMA award” and cash prize of Rs. 50,000/-

On account of his scientific recognition and regards, he had been nominated as the Vice President (Central Zone) ANSI, Karnal, Editor in Chief, IJAPM, Hisar, Vice President (Central Zone), ISAPM, Hisar and Vice President (Central Zone) ANA, Izatnagar, Bareily during different periods.


Brief History

The College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Jabalpur was started on October 2012 as per the gazette of Madhya Pradesh Government. This college is previously working as a department of Fisheries at Faculty of Veterinary Science, JNKVV, Jabalpur (Estt. 1964). The department of fisheries is look over the than five decades of its existence of Aquatic body name as Adhartal Tank which was developed by the Senapati of Gondwana State Shri Diwan Adhar Singh. The aquatic body has been able to make an overall development of fish production and management through its impressive teaching, research and extension activities in basic and applied fields. Consequent to the establishment of Madhya Pradesh Pashu Chikitsha Vigyan Viswavidyalaya (renamed as Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University) the college became a constitution institution of the new Viswa Vidyalaya with effect from 04.10.2012.


Mandate:-

  • Human Resource Development in Fisheries.
  • Basic, applied and adaptive research on emerging problems in fisheries.
  • Transfer of technology to fish farmers, entrepreneurs and industry. To develop college as center for demonstrations and training to unemployed youth, tribal and fish farmers especially on composite fish culture, integrated fish farming Azolla- culture, fish breeding techniques, fresh water prawn culture etc.
  • • To impart them the latest technology of composite fish culture to increase fish production from an average of 700 kg/ha to 4000 kg/ha.

  • Development of fishery through lab to land programme.

Thrust area:-

  • Imparting education in the field of fisheries to generate technical graduates.
  • To exploits the maximum areas of fisheries through Research and Development activity.
  • To impart latest technology (Lab to land programme) to fish farmers though extension activities to increase fish production of the state and up-liftmen to socioeconomic status of fisherman.
